Future Shock

DJ SERIOUS BIO:

Like all good hip-hop, Toronto's DJ Serious has risen from the underground to find success by the light of day.

Following up on several acclaimed 12" singles, his critically acclaimed LP, Dim Sum (Audio Research/Headless Heroes/Sound King Records, 2000), a Juno Award, and a European tour, Serious maintains his status as one of Canada's premier Hip-Hop producers with his sophomore release, Cold Tea (Audio Research/Maple Music, 2006).

DJ Serious returns and adds up-and-coming Hip-Hop elite into the fold featuring Theology 3 and Roach One, and brings back names that some might remember on Dim Sum: D-Sisive, Dj Grouch (Turnstylez/ Camp X). But to branch out and add something different to the mix, Serious enlisted some talent south of the border: Hip-Hop's golden era wordsmith, Masta Ase. The result is again, instant classic status.

As a couple of listens to Cold Tea will attest, the title of 'DJ' may belie the depth of his abilities.

DJ Serious has been
honing his studio skills since '95 and is quickly becoming a highly sought after producer on a global scale. And it is
his skills as a producer that truly takes this album into new sonic territory.

In addition to contributing to Juno Award winning records (Choclair, 2003), running his ongoing radio show on CIUT 89.5 FM (Stylistik Endeavors) and displaying his skills at any one of his many dj gigs, DJ Serious, is a member of a new-school Jazz/Funk band (The Quartertones), and still has had time to create a well-rounded album that is sure to become a classic Hip-Hop record in the tradition of fellow beat-makers Jay Dilla and Pete Rock.

www.djserious.com

=================================================================

DJ DOPEY BIO:

While the art of turntablism continues to please audiences across the world, it goes without saying that
DJ Dopey has played an integral part in its global success.

Having performed as a DJ/Turntablist alongside pioneers like DJ Q-Bert, DJ Craze, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Mix Master Mike, Dopey solidified his role amongst these innovative DJ's formally by winning the most coveted DJ title of them all, he became 2003's WORLD DMC CHAMPION. In addition to his World DMC win he is no stranger to the world DJ battle circuit, his other 1st place titles include 2001 Allies All Star Beatdown Champion (organized by world renowned turntablist crew "The Allies"), as well as 2002/2003 Vestax Canadian Champion among others.

As a founding member of the Turntable Monkz, and now a certified world champion, DJ Dopey (born Jon Ryan Santiago) took the opportunity to tour the world a few times over sharing stages with artists such as Eminem, Madlib, Slum Village, Frank N Dank, Kardinal Offishall, Gang Starr and DJ'd exclusively for DCS. He continues his globetrotting by carrying out his seasoned successes as a key group member of Notes to Self, a rap crew from Toronto currently seeking label and management opportunities world wide. Dopey's found time to be an integral part of their creative process, spending much of his free time off tour in the Studio with Notes writing and recording, contributing a few years worth of hard work to their up and coming world debut release.

As one of Canada's premiere talents, DJ Dopey has also collaborated and has contributed to other projects with artists such as Saukrates, Choclair and DCS.

In his 10 years as a DJ/Turntablist, DJ Dopey has accomplished a great deal; he has "battled" his way to the top, he's performed alongside the world's best DJ's and musicians, and has now taken to the studio portion of being an artist where he now perfects his recorded arts. Dopey is now poised to help present the world to Notes to Self, a rap group that will finally help realize his first official recorded contribution as a commercial release on their debut full-length. DJ Dopey is a rare and humbled talent that will continue to push the limits, not just as a DJ but as a recording artist as well.

www.djdopey.com

===================================================

=========

BUNDOWN SOUND SYSTEM BIO:

The BSS is a music & event promotion team made up of music industry veterans from radio and print media, nightlife & lifestyle promotions, and the b-boy/hip hop community.

They first formed in May 2007 as a reaction to the lack of quality nightlife and lifestyle events in Winnipeg. They implemented a marketing strategy to introduce a summer residency that embraced urban music genres that did were not being properly represented in the local nightlife scene and launched it in the most unlikely of venues, The Orbit Room, a popular south end hang. The residency provided a haven of soul, funk, rap and house and patrons could not have been happier.

Funk Bundown became the impetus for the formation of the Bundown Sound System, which is comprised of DJs "Lil' Phil" Tse, Ofield K. Williams, Justin "Quadratik" Villarin and Angelou "Jay Boogie" Flores, radio personality Lucious Frazier and nightlife promoter Leo "Manic" Cabanal.

Their combined experiences in the Canadian music and nightlife scene have made BSS a force to be reckoned with and they have already made an impact locally with their innovative and and exciting nightlife experiences. They have launched a number of residencies since their formation such as the popular WTF?...where's the funk?, Red Carpet Massacre and Charles' Gallery monthly parties, initiated marketing campaigns for successful one-off events like Thriller, the Sex and The District campaign launch and the Breakin' To Spring 2-on-2 b-boy/b-girl battle.

The BSS were also invited to open for Method Man, launch a residency at Earl's St. Vital and Bar Italia and Jay Boogie was nominated for this year's Stylus DJ Awards in the Winnipeg DJ of the Year category - all in less than a year as a team in the local nightlife scene, already making them influential nightlife promotions specialists.

They can be heard weekly on CKUW 95.9FM on Sundays (The Lounge) from 1:00-3:00pm and spin weekly at Bar Italia for their Lucky Mix weekly residency and at Earl's St. Vital for the Sugar Mountain-sponsored Pop Culture Thursdays.

The New Meanies

musicians and longtime friends decided to take
their talents to the next level, envisioning a
musical collaboration where creativity ran
freely. Out of the basement in a house in
Charleswood... Blending good old fashioned
rock'n'roll with healthy doses of blues, jazz,
and funk, the New Meanies found their musical
muse. For more than a decade, the New Meanies
have earned a reputation as one of Canada's most
high-calibre rock outfits, touring across North
America and winning the acclaim of critics and
peers alike. There's few other bands in the world
who both consistenly push the musical envelope
and simultaneously remain true to their roots,
and the New Meanies are of that calibre.
Featuring guitarist and lead vocalist Damon
Mitchell, guitarist Jeff Hondubura, bassist and
keyboardist Sky Onosson and drummer Jason Kane,
the band originally formed under the moniker of
the Blue Meanies. Winning audiences over with
signature sizzling blues-rock instrumentals and
thoughtful songwriting, the band quickly earned a
spot in the upper echelon of Winnipeg rock bands.

MORTON OF LAMB OF GOD, DAVE ELLEFSON OF MEGADETH,
BRIAN FAIR OF SHADOWS FALL, HARLEY FLANAGAN OF THE CRO-MAGS and more!

Necro is the brutalest rapper on the planet. He
has reached legendary status by dropping non stop
consistent hardcore albums on his own label,
Psycho+Logical-Records. If you havent heard of
Necro you must be living under a rock. Necro is
anything but your typical rapper. While some of
his biggest influences are hip-hop greats like
Rakim, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane, the harsh
realities of his life also drew him to the sounds
of bands like Slayer and Megadeth. Although he
was able to recite all the lyrics to Slick Rick's
La-di-da-di at 7 years old, he would also blast
Metallica's Kill Em All out the window of his
bedroom so all the kids in the projects could
hear it. He even admits to crying when Cliff
Burton (Metallica's bassist) died. Nope, he is not your typical rapper.

These puppet masters wield a musical arsenal creating huge dramatic worlds of sound with organic chants, colossal guitars, hypnotic off-time record scratches, beats, loops, and Lesley speaker keyboard drones: ears open and eyes closed is all the flight attendant requests.

Absent Sound began as a solo project of Robert G. Menard around 1995 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with friends helping him produce the home recordings in a live setting. In 2002, David Fort joined as a permanent member to the take the band into a much more serious mode. Menard (guitars, samples/loops, vocals and keys) and Fort (guitars, bass, vocals and keys) secluded themselves in the wilds of north-central Manitoba. Over the next year the pair hid from all distractions, meditating solely on the rise and fall of the earth's respirating chest. What emerged a year later was a treasure chest full of ideas and music that are still being explored five years later. Their innate community building skills have allowed them to become the hub of one of the more vibrant progressive art and music scenes in Canada.
